A good combination bot will be able to navigate well and have excellent obstacles avoidance. Look for models that automatically empty their bin, refill their water tank, and machine-wash their mopping pads using a dedicated dock.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It has a lot to offer for its modest price and is among the easiest robots we've tested to install. Unpacking is simple and the quick-start manual can get you running in no time. You'll have a an entire dust bag, water tank, and hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is an incredibly powerful machine that can mop and vacuum well. The mops are spun at a high rate and employ 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to take away pet hair, dirt and sticky dried spills. The vacuum comes with four power modes, a range of brushes and attachments and an intuitive app that lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like to have for each room.

For instance, you could opt for the robot to clean up the living and kitchen areas but be careful with the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors as well as smart navigation technology. It is able to recognize small obstacles that other models can't. Its only minor issue is that it tends to crash into walls and objects at full speed - but just a glance at the history of cleaning within the app will show you exactly what it's doing, where it's going and the obstacles it's avoided.

The docking station comes with an LCD display that displays when maintenance is needed for cleaning up debris and washing the water tank that is dirty. It can also mix detergent into the water tank in a controlled manner with a 600ml of eufy solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum have a long running time. The mop can operate for 184 mins in Quiet Mode and the vacuum can run for 136 minutes in normal mode, prior to needing to recharge or returning back to the base. The app is easy to use and intuitive that lets you see all the details of the cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the most recent version of Roborock's top-of-the-line robot mop and vacuum, is the newest version. In contrast to the model of last year this one has a double agitator in its mopping pad which greatly improves carpet cleaning capabilities. The S8 Pro Ultra has an enhanced suction power that allows it to pick up smaller hairs and other particles other robotic cleaners may miss.

Like the other two Roborock models I've tried the S8 Pro Ultra has a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology which help it avoid walls, furniture and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and includes dual cameras that can detect objects, and determine if they are walls or other surfaces. It can then automatically change its direction and clean them without missing a beat.

This is the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed, however, it's also the most feature-packed. Its sleek and angular design is eye catching and only has three physical buttons. The power button, which resumes the cleaning robot mop and vacuum mop button, which doubles up as a child-lock and a home button to take the robot to its dock. The hinged lid opens up to reveal a 350ml trash bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank is automatically filled and the bin automatically refills.

The only issue I encountered in this model was the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't movable. It is possible to change the mopping cloth if required, but it's not easy to remove the mount for manual washing. I've found that any plush carpet that the robot touches will come into contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and that could cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a range of clever features that include support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You can manage and set up these via the Roborock app, which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and track battery life. You'll need to jump through a few steps to enable voice control on this model. This is a shame considering how efficient it is otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The L20 Ultra is a high-end robot that is among the most expensive models available, but it packs in many additional features that make it stand out. Smart DuoScrub is a brand new feature of its mop heads, makes use of two mop heads with high-speed motors to scrub floors more thoroughly. It also has a suction force of 7,000Pa. This is higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra and Ecovacs Deebots T20 Omni. It can also clean pet hair, small dirt particles and remove spills and soiled spots.

The mopping system is also well designed, and the double rotating mop is great for hard floors or in corners. They can also extend to 2mm baseboards thanks to the MopExtend feature which is a nice touch.
