Replacement Handles For Windows

You'll need to know your current handle's length of the spindle and its fixings to replace it. This can be done by looking at the base of the old handle.

Handle

Over time, uPVC window handles and locks can be damaged through wear and tear, accidental or deliberate damage. This could mean that the lock or handle becomes difficult to open or close, or it's not locked in any way. It's tempting to replace your entire window unit if this happens, but it is not always required. It is often the case that a replacement handle or lock is sufficient.

The most commonly used kind of uPVC window handle is the espagnolette style. This handle has an outer spindle that extends from the handle. It is inserted into a gearbox which operates the multipoint locking mechanism inside the window. We stock a variety of replacement handles and locks for all kinds of uPVC window to ensure they function in a coordinated manner.

When replacing the uPVC window handle repair handle, it's recommended to use screws with cover caps to ensure the screws are secure and shield them from corrosion. You can also employ a washer, spacer or another sealant to make a tighter fit. A screw cap in place will also prevent water and debris from entering the handle and causing damage.

After taking the handle out of the window, it's a good idea for you to clean the spindle and the threaded portion of the bolt. This will ensure that the handle is fitted and functions correctly and also stop dirt from entering the multipoint lock.

Hinges

If your windows are beginning to close and open with a visible gap, it could be due to the hinges not being aligned with the frame. It's usually a simple fix that can be fixed with a set of replacement hinges. We have a variety of options and modify the size of the hinges to meet your needs.

A window that is not plumb could begin to open and close without difficulty, or it could become warped over time which can affect the seal and the appearance of the window.

When purchasing replacement upvc window hinges, be aware that they can be purchased in imperial or the metric sizes. The metric sizes are a little more precise, but it isn't noticeable once they are fitted. The first corner fixing holes on the track and arm are standard size, however the other holes may differ in length based on the hardware that was originally used. You should take measurements of the holes in your existing frame to ensure that the hinges made from upvc you buy are the right size.

Crank

Over time, wear and tear can result in damage to the window handle, lock or crank mechanism. This could hinder the ease of opening and closing your windows, and also compromise their security. If you notice that your window is hard to open or close, or hear a click when turning the handle, it could be an indication that you need to replace the crank mechanism. If you are unable to close your window or the multipoint locks is damaged, it might be worth replacing the crank mechanism too.

A new window crank is able to be replaced with minimal effort, but you need to make sure you buy the correct size replacement. You can determine whether the new one has the exact same step height as the old one by measuring the distance from the crank arm guide bushing to the notch on the track at the bottom of the frame. You can also determine the length of the spindle on your current handle to determine the size of a replacement double glazing handles.

The type of handle on your window will determine the type of crank mechanism required for your casement and window awnings. Espag handles are equipped with a mental spindle in the back that is fixed to the frame of the window and is the motor that drives the mechanism. Cockspur external door handles and locks have pegs that are fixed in the frame by three or four screws that are fitted into the sash and frame.

It's easy to replace your window operator after you've identified the correct replacement. Remove any screws that attach to the trim from the casement cover, and carefully lift the cover off to reveal the innards of the window operator (Photo 1). Remove any trim screws that are rusted and then compare the new operating lever with the previous to make sure they are in line. Then screw the replacement to the window frame, replacing any screws that were rusted or bent, and place the casement cover back over the mechanism.
