What is the purpose of Hades?

Hades is a unique Rogue-lite that does an amazing job of marrying its fast-paced action with a persistent, progressing story through a vividly reimagined Greek mythological underworld. Supergiant Games' critically acclaimed title The Underworld lets you hack and slash your way out of the Underworld.

The game begins by dragging you into the Underworld and is surrounded by the shadows of dead souls as well as the river Styx. You'll be fighting your way forward through numerous enemies and supernatural ghosts. Throughout each run you'll find power ups and upgrades that will allow you to survive the trials of the Underworld.

These power ups can be used to unlock new weapons, upgrade existing ones, or even alter the way in which the game is played. The House of Hades is also where players will be rewarded with rare rewards following each run and unlock items of decorative value to use in the following run.

Supergiant has confirmed that a sequel to Hades is in the in the works. It will introduce a hero called Melinoe into the story. The character is a witch and sorceress with powerful magical abilities and "deadly skill" with dark weapons. Supergiant is expanding the Underworld with new areas and challenges, and players will be able to use powers granted by the Olympians to help them overcome them.
